be part of vancouver 2010
time going to work: 52:36.8
i biked to work today, and my fingers and my toes felt like they were going to fall off by the time i got in, and then i went to take a shower, and i just kept turning the water tap thing to make it more hot, and it just doesn’t feel like there was any change, maybe it’s time to invest in some warmer gear for realz
i went to a meeting for volunteering at the 2010 olympic on monday, i put in my application a while back and they called me for a phone interview, so i guess i passed to the initial stage. so it was like a 5 hr meeting, and there was about 20 ppl or so? but i think there’s a diff group every hour cause they have to interview in total of 25000 ppl for volunteer for the whole event (and they only went through with around 10000, so if you put your application in too like me, you might still get called). we were all there to volunteer for the snowboard team, and this is basically the face to face interview, and then a long 4 hr of orientation telling us about the olympic – mission statement, value, goal, etc, not everyone will get picked, so i hope i get it, and then i have to commit to 10-13 shifts of volunteer (somehow while i still have a job)
speaking of olympic you can also put in application to buy event tickets, but man, it’s sorta complicated and you have to plan your two weeks for it
and you know what i found out at the orientation, the richmond skating/oval rink, is ONLY used for long distance speed skating, that’s it, short distance is at pacific coliseum (along with figure skating), i could be wrong, but if that’s the case… that’s kinda a waste of our money, one big new stadium for one event
biking made me super tired, i think i need one of these at my desk to take over for me
You are correct, the Richmond Oval is only for Long Track Speed Skating, while the Pacific Coliseum is for Short Track (and figure skating). The Oval will also house the anti-doping clinics for the Olympics. The Richmond Oval was designed as a community sport center (running track, tennis courts, ice hockey / short track) for after the Olympics.
The majority of the cost of building the Oval was covered by the City of Richmond and not by VANOC, so overall this was a very beneficial deal for both parties.
Good luck on getting selected.
